Whew, been a while! 2 years to be exact since I’ve blogged. Life has been crazy over here lately between adding another member to our family (a baby girl, Collins Mae Camp), school, work, and just life in general. And don’t even get me started on COVID. I recently moved into an office space outside of home (halleleujah!), so I figured why not pick back up now that I have a rare moment of uninterrupted time to work, without the constant need for a diaper change, snacks, naps and mommy’s attention. I guess I feel the need to explain that I do love being a mom; really, I do. But I also really enjoy working. I’ve always been an independent person with a deep need to do something that I pride myself on. Don’t get me wrong, being a SAHM is certainly something to be proud of, but by the end of the day when you haven’t even put on a bra or brushed your teeth, some days don’t feel so “accomplished.” Work has always been that sense of pride for me, and I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to be in this position now with more time to devote to focusing on my passion.
Last month took me to Charleston (along with my hubby) for a wedding + a weekend getaway! I traveled to Charleston months before (pre-COVID) to photograph Anna + Cam’s engagement session, and it was a BLAST. We hit all of the best spots, and had perfect weather (I’ll share those in a separate blog post!). Once COVID hit, they had lots of rearranging to do. Originally, they planned for a rehearsal dinner on a giant sailboat, and their wedding was to be at Patriot’s Point in Charleston, SC. However, after months of going back and forth, they decided on a more intimate affair and married at the end of their dock on a marsh, and would later have a celebration with their closest friends and family (that’s where I come in!).
Sometimes as a photographer, a huge wedding can eliminate the opportunity for creativity with the couple. They are being pulled in 400 different directions, with tons of guests and obligations, that the photographer is only able to pull them away for a few moments to grab their best shots. With their change of plan, it allowed us to get SO many amazing shots, and it was pretty much the only time I was thanking COVID for doing me a favor.
We ended the night on the Charleston Princess, a party boat with all of their closest friends + family dancing the night away! Plans can change unexpectedly, especially when you’re planning a wedding in the midst of a pandemic, but sometimes it works out for the better; I think that’s exactly what happened for these two. I’m so excited that they trusted me enough to travel such a long distance and document their (long-awaited) special day.
